Mehdi HasanColumnist for the Guardian US Win every argument, tell Michael Safi Why is Donald Trump such a difficult debate opponent?
“He basically does a nonstop, relentless, constant barrage of bullshit that he bombards his opponent, the host, the interviewer. It's nearly impossible to interrupt him, fact-check him, respond to him, or get him to answer questions, because it's just a stream of consciousness.”
On Tuesday, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will face off in the first, and likely only, presidential debate broadcast to millions. Hasan has some advice for Harris: “Pick your opponents, stand up for yourself, and call out Trump for what he does.”
But there will be challenges for Trump, too. “I think he's going to have to be especially careful,” Hasan said, “because he's not just going to be running against women, like Hillary Clinton was, he's going to be running against black women. He can't handle a strong black woman, and he loses his cool with that.”
“If his team is smart, they're going to urge him not to do anything outrageous or racist or misogynistic. It all comes down to these handful of battleground states, and white suburban moms are switching over to Harris.”
