Mehmet Oz launches 'War on Fraud' documentary focusing on hospice and Medicare issues

Dr. Mehmet Oz Highlights Healthcare Fraud in New Documentary

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz is offering Americans a glimpse into the Trump administration’s efforts to tackle healthcare fraud through a new documentary. This film, titled “War on Fraud,” uncovers significant Medicare fraud schemes, alleged hospice scams, and even suspected organized crime involvement.

In this 27-minute documentary, which was first shared by Fox News Digital, Oz travels across the U.S. to highlight fraud schemes that exploit taxpayer-funded healthcare programs. He discusses the administration’s initiatives aimed at combating fraud effectively.

Oz expresses strong sentiments in the documentary, stating, “All these programs come back to one basic issue: Fraudsters and criminals don’t care about you. They want your money and will disregard your health, sacrificing your life and betraying societal trust to get your hard-earned cash.”

The film also features appearances from notable figures such as HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and CMS Deputy Administrator Kim Brandt. Oz investigates numerous suspected fraud incidents connected to Medicare, Medicaid, and hospice services.

Federal Investigation Underway

On October 20, Oz, accompanied by Fox News Digital, confronted staff members at New York City senior day care centers amid a broad federal investigation into questionable Medicaid billing practices. This operation involved over 80 providers who were sent warning letters from CMS concerning irregular billing.

An FBI spokesperson noted that law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and NYPD, are conducting investigations across various locations in New York City.

Oz pointed out several irregularities at these centers, such as low attendance rates juxtaposed with high Medicaid billing, dubious transportation charges, and sign-in sheets with future dates.

The documentary sheds light on how CMS is intensifying its crackdown on fraud, aiming to recover taxpayer dollars misappropriated from healthcare programs. A significant focus is on hospice care, particularly in the Los Angeles area, which Oz claims has a large concentration of providers, raising alarms about potential fraudulent practices.

Allegations of Organized Crime Involvement

In a startling claim, Oz suggests involvement from Russian organized crime groups in some suspected hospice fraud cases. He accuses these groups of manipulating patients into enrolling in hospice care under false pretenses, potentially limiting their access to necessary treatments while allowing fraudsters to exploit Medicare.

One notorious case, the “Feeding Our Future” scandal in Minnesota, has reportedly heightened the administration’s scrutiny on largescale fraud. This scandal garnered national attention in 2022, leading to numerous federal convictions and reinforcing the urgency to address such issues.

The White House Task Force on Fraud, spearheaded by Vice President JD Vance, is collaborating with Oz to combat fraudulent activities, particularly in taxpayer-funded programs.

The documentary also reveals one of the largest alleged Medicare fraud operations in U.S. history, involving around $3.7 billion in fraudulent claims related to medical equipment companies in Florida. Federal prosecutors allege that these entities billed patients for equipment that was neither requested nor required. The supposed mastermind of this scheme fled to Turkey before being apprehended and returned to the U.S.

Documentary Release

Additionally, Oz describes areas in Queens where various businesses are believed to be fronting for fraudulent operations, pegging them as “clubhouses for crooks.” He explains how these businesses recruit seniors to exploit the system.

The documentary is set to be released on Wednesday at 4 P.M. ET on Oz’s X account, further drawing attention to the administration’s rigorous fight against healthcare fraud.
