Chargers’ Becton Faces Health Concerns Ahead of Game in Brazil
The Kansas City Chiefs took on the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, marking the second NFL International Series game of the 2025 season.
However, just hours before the game began, the Chargers announced that offensive lineman Mekhi Becton was listed as questionable due to an illness. Specific details about his condition weren’t provided by the team. On Saturday, Becton took to social media to share insights into his situation, implying it might be related to a recent hospital visit.
“Don’t eat rice and beans with your Brazilian buddy,” he joked in an Instagram story alongside a photo that appeared to show an IV bag and a heart monitor.
As the game approached, NFL Network reported that Becton was not on the final list of inactive players, indicating he might still participate.
Ultimately, the Chargers won the game with a score of 27-21, which also ended their seven-game losing streak against AFC West division opponents.
Becton was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft but left the team after the 2023 season. He then signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, where he started 15 games and secured his first Super Bowl title. This offseason, the Chargers signed him to a two-year contract.
Throughout the offseason, Becton had not participated in some of the training activities due to a private injury but returned to football activities by late August. Heading into the regular season, he was named the starting right guard.
The Chargers are set to face the Las Vegas Raiders in week two, representing another challenge in their divisional matchup.
