Mel B tells the story from A to Z. In this morning’s episode, The Drew Barrymore Show, The iconic Spice Girls member recalled an awkward exchange with Prince William when he pinned an MBE badge to her chest.
After a long conversation about the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of her ex-husband, Mel told host Drew Barrymore about her experience receiving royal honors from Prince William in 2022.
But Mel said he was initially confused as to why she was there.
“It was actually funny because Prince William was like, ‘Oh, where are the other Spice Girls?’ I was like, ‘It’s just me,'” she recalled. “He was like, ‘Who are you with?'” — I think he’s looking for another brown person or a black person. I’m like, “I’m here with my mom.” She is the white woman in the back with blonde hair and blue eyes. ”
He listened intently when she explained that she had been praised for her work with the domestic violence charity Women’s Aid.
“He keeps talking to me, which makes me even more nervous,” she said. “It’s like, ‘Hey, people are lining up. Please wear your badge.'”
She continued, “And I’m looking down — Victoria [Beckham] She designed my dress and she put a slit in it. [on the chest] — and that’s just boobs! And he has to fix it there. It’s like, “Oh, thank you.” ”
Despite the hair-raising moment, Mel said Prince William was “lovely”, adding that he was the “last batch of MBEs” approved by Queen Elizabeth II before she died in September 2022.
Elsewhere in her interview with Barrymore, Mel choked up while talking about how she picked herself up after getting out of an abusive relationship. Apart from therapy, she said: “I spent a lot of time alone and learned to really love myself. That was the hardest part.” And now I really love myself,” she says in her eyes. I wiped my tears.
“You deserve every medal in the world,” Barrymore concluded.
