It shows that he is paying attention to what he calls a “four-year grace period.'' Under the incoming Trump administration.

Gibson's Faith and Perseverance
Mr. Gibson, who directed and financed the 2004 box office smash “The Passion of the Christ,'' is openly Catholic.
In July, he showed support for conservative Catholic Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, who was excommunicated by the Vatican. Mr. Gibson praised Mr. Vigano for pointing out the “core problems” within the Catholic Church and, in Mr. Gibson's view, the “injustices of the church.” [Pope] Francisco. ” Gibson is a religious reformer, someone who believes that the papacy is vacant and that the last legitimate pope was Pope Pius XII, who died in 1958. Reformers reject the authority of Vatican II.
In 2021, a fellow actor called for Hollywood to cancel Mel Gibson's appearance, accusing him of being a “virulent anti-Semite,” but quickly brushed off “old news” and imposed “censorship.” received a cyber spanking.
Nearly 20 years ago, Gibson famously went on a drunken anti-Semitic rant in the back of a police car, then endured a spin-off. He and his longtime wife divorced, their relationship was torn apart amid accusations of battery, and a custody battle for their children — and, unsurprisingly, Hollywood shunned him.
Of course, Gibson apologized for his words and has since worked to rebuild his life. Most notably, he reportedly self-educated himself about the Holocaust and secretly engaged in related initiatives, including a philanthropic effort supporting Holocaust survivors in eight countries through the Survivor Mitzvah Project.
“As long as you haven't committed any crime.”
Back in 2011, actor Robert Downey Jr. chided the star-studded audience on Gibson's behalf during an award speech that Downey specially presented to Gibson.
“Respectfully, please forgive my friend for his sins, offer him the same clean slate that I have, and allow him to, unless you are completely innocent. In that case, you are in the wrong fucking industry. I hope he continues to make great and lasting contributions to our collective art,” Downey said of Gibson.
Before those sharp words, Downey revealed to listeners how Gibson helped him before Gibson's own fall from grace.
When I couldn't get sober, he told me not to give up hope and encouraged me to find faith. It doesn't have to belong to him or anyone else, as long as it's rooted in forgiveness. And since I didn't get hired, he actually cast me in the lead role in a movie that he developed for him. And he kept a roof over my head and food on the table. And most importantly, he says, if I accept responsibility for my misdeeds and if I embrace the ugly parts of my soul, what he calls “hugging the cactus,” I did. I thought my life would take on new meaning if I became a more humble person, and it worked. All he asked in return was that someday I would help the next guy in some small way. It's natural to think that at the time, he never imagined that the next guy would be him or that someday it would be tonight.
Downey added that Gibson “held the cactus long enough.” check out the clip here.
