Mel Owens Sets Strict Standards for “Golden Bachelor”

Mel Owens, the newest star of “Golden Bachelor,” is quite particular about who he wants as a life partner. During a recent appearance on the “To the Trench” podcast, he disclosed plans to eliminate over 60 contestants right off the bat. Interestingly, he emphasized that the producers wouldn’t cast anyone with “artificial waists” or “wigs.”

“It’s all a surprise until they step out of the limo. But they asked me what my preferences are, and I mentioned ages 45 to 60,” said Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL player. “Then we had this meeting with the executive producer, and he reminded me, ‘This isn’t ‘silver singles’. It’s the Golden Bachelor.’ But I reassured him, ‘Don’t worry; they’ll be attractive.'”

Owens also mentioned having certain expectations for the competitors’ health. “I didn’t need a resume, but they did ask about my profile,” he noted. “Well, I should be in good shape, and I expect the same from them. It’s important, isn’t it?”

He expressed confidence that he would find a wonderful partner, stating, “I don’t think there’ll be any artificial waists or wigs involved because I believe there are great women out there.”

Jerry Turner, who was the first “Golden Bachelor,” was 72 when he participated and ended up marrying Teresa Nist, though they split just three months later.

The age range for Owens’ contestants will span from 60 to 75. Representatives for the show haven’t responded to inquiries yet.

According to a press release, Owens has a 25-year marriage behind him and two sons, and he is looking for love that thrives on simple joys, shared experiences, and mutual growth. “As a Golden Bachelor, he hopes to find someone who shares this vision and feels like the ideal teammate in this stage of life,” the release stated.
