Melania Coin comes in the midst of President-elect Trump's recent embrace of cryptocurrencies and the community surrounding them, as Trump also now has his own cryptocurrency.
“My new official Trump meme is here! It's time to celebrate everything we stand for: victory! Join my special Trump community. Get Trump now,” the president-elect posted on Truth Social on Friday.
Trump previously called cryptocurrencies a “scam” but later endorsed them on the campaign trail, becoming the first presidential candidate to embrace digital assets. Through the Community Chest Committee, his donors were able to donate to his campaign any cryptocurrency accepted through the Coinbase Commerce product.
The first “crypto ball” was thrown by Trump-elect artificial intelligence and crypto czar David Sachs in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
