“When I saw those vicious bullets strike my husband, Donald, I realized that my life and Barron’s were on the brink of devastating change,” she said at the time. “I am grateful to the brave Secret Service and police officers who risked their own lives to protect my husband.”
She ultimately called for unity, saying, “The monsters who perceived my husband as an inhuman political machine tried to drown out Donald’s passions – his laughter, his ingenuity, his love of music and his inspiration. The core human aspects of my husband’s life were buried beneath a political machine.”
