First Lady Melania Trump Visits Children’s Hospital Ahead of Independence Day

Ahead of this year’s Independence Day, First Lady Melania Trump made a visit to the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. on Thursday afternoon. This was part of her “Be Best” initiative.

During her visit, Mrs. Trump interacted with young patients facing various health challenges, including cancer, kidney, and heart issues. They engaged in several patriotic arts and crafts activities, like painting rocks.

“Mrs. Trump and our team truly value the opportunity to connect with these courageous children and their families,” said Nicholas Clemens, the communications director for her office.

Heartwarming Gifts and Engagement

The First Lady handed out gifts such as teddy bears, puzzles, books, and temporary tattoos that featured the word “best.” Clemens remarked, “It was delightful to see their faces light up when we shared Mrs. Trump’s favorite sports and music with them, especially while looking at the teddy bears.”

Clemens went on to emphasize the importance of this visit, stating, “It served as a memorable reminder for Mrs. Trump about her commitment to advocating for child happiness. We are genuinely thankful to Children’s National for such a touching experience.”

During her time there, Mrs. Trump helped unveil a hybrid tea rose, named “Eternal Flame,” which came from the White House gardens. As defined by the Missouri Botanical Garden, these roses are characterized by their high centers and long stems, exuding a lovely fragrance suitable for cutting gardens.

Patients at the hospital took part in placing American flags, pinwheels, and rocks in the rooftop garden. Alongside the First Lady was the White House Grounds director, Dale Haney, who discussed the new rose bush with her and the hospital’s president, Michelle Riley Brown.

Engagement with Patients

The day included heartwarming moments, like when Mrs. Trump visited a three-month-old boy in the Heart and Kidney Unit, who has already undergone five surgeries since his birth.

She shared hugs and smiles with children and their military families, creating an atmosphere of warmth and support. This visit not only showcased her dedication but also highlighted the resilience of the young patients she met.

It’s notable that Mrs. Trump had previously visited Children’s National Hospital back in 2017 to dedicate the Bunny Melon Healing Garden, a rooftop space of 7,200 square feet that celebrates philanthropy and nature.
