The former first lady issued a statement in which she said the “monster” had treated her “husband as an inhuman political machine” and fired the shots.

Melania Trump, who was not at the rally when the assassination attempt occurred, watched on television as bullets struck her husband.

“When I watched those vicious bullets strike my husband, Donald, I realized that my life and Barron’s were on the brink of devastating change. I am grateful to the brave Secret Service and law enforcement officers who risked their lives to protect my husband,” she said in a statement.

“We all want a world where respect matters above all else, where family comes first, and where love transcends,” Melanie Trump said. “We can make this world happen again, and each and every one of us must demand it back.”

She urged people to put political differences aside and reiterated that they must remember that “behind every politician there is a loving family.”
