Melania Trump Gets a Hug from a Young Girl at a Children's Hospital

On Friday, First Lady Melania Trump embraced a young girl during her visit to Children’s National Hospital, where she read a story, hoping to spread some holiday cheer among patients.

A video captured Melania reading the book How Does Santa Go Down the Chimney? while another clip shows a little girl rushing up to give her a hug. Melania leaned down to chat with the thrilled child.

This hospital visit is part of a series of festive activities as the Trump administration celebrates the Christmas season. Earlier in the week, Melania and Usha Vance commended the bravery of U.S. service members and their families at Joint Base Andrews and assembled care packages for service members away from home.

In her remarks, FLOTUS mentioned:

Today, we have many quietly powerful individuals around us. While we often speak about the courage of military personnel—and rightly so—it’s crucial to also recognize the bravery of their spouses. These partners manage the challenges of family life while supporting their loved ones in service.

Amid every change and every homecoming, you demonstrate resilience and strength. You’re creating a stable environment for your children, juggling home responsibilities, work, and finances while providing essential support. You take on this special role out of love for your partner.

We are accompanied today by the American Red Cross, an organization that has aided military families for many years.

The First Lady also shared insights into this year’s White House decorations. Many observers noted that the aesthetic has shifted back to a more traditional style compared to previous years.

“This Christmas, let’s celebrate the love we carry within us, sharing it with those around us. Regardless of where we are, we can turn any space into a home with boundless possibilities,” she conveyed in a social media update, alongside a video showcasing the theme “Home Is Where the Heart Is.” Highlighted decorations include a Red Room themed “Nurturing the Future,” an East Room celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, and a Green Room dedicated to “Family Fun.”

A day earlier, President Donald Trump and Melania also lit the National Christmas Tree.
