First Lady Melania Trump and Usha Vance Support Military Families
First Lady Melania Trump, along with second daughter Usha Vance, celebrated the beginning of the Christmas season by greeting military families at Joint Base Andrews. They participated in assembling holiday care packages for service members.
“We often discuss the bravery of our military personnel, and rightly so,” the First Lady stated as they prepared care packages. “However, we must also recognize the strength of those alongside them: the spouses who juggle family responsibilities with their own aspirations.”
She added, “As we embrace this season of hope, remember to care for yourself. Your well-being is crucial not only for your family but for your own future too.”
The partnership with the American Red Cross resulted in about 700 care packages being prepared in a hangar filled with various aircraft, including F-16s and C-37s, while soft Christmas tunes played softly in the background.
The packages contained snacks such as Rice Krispies, Slim Jims, along with popcorn, handwritten messages, and tissues.
The second daughter remarked, “The care packages we’re assembling are part of a proud and ongoing tradition.” She encouraged people to remember the collective duty towards communities during the holiday season.
The Red Cross has been sending care packages to military personnel since World War I, assisting around 220,000 service members and their families each year.
A number of Cabinet spouses joined in the efforts, including Jennifer Hegseth, Kathryn Burgum, and others, while Cheryl Hines, wife of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr., also participated amid the buzz surrounding a forthcoming tell-all book about RFK Jr.
Throughout the celebration, Melania Trump, Usha Vance, and the spouses wrote cheerful notes thanking service members. One note read, “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you for all you do. Our country is proud of you! Warmest wishes, Melania Trump.”
Earlier that day, the First Lady’s office revealed the White House’s Christmas decorations themed around “Home is Where the Heart Is.” She expressed gratitude to the volunteers who assisted with the decorations and preparations for the upcoming tours, set to begin on Tuesday.
