First Lady Participates in Holiday Care Package Event for Military Families

On December 1, 2025, First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady Usha Vance joined forces at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland for a holiday gathering aimed at creating care packages for U.S. service members.

Alongside them were several cabinet spouses including Jennifer Hegseth, Kathryn Burgum, and others, contributing to the festive spirit of the event.

This gathering took place in the afternoon, coinciding with the White House’s reveal of this year’s Christmas decorations, themed “Home is Where the Heart Is.”

Described as a touching charitable effort, the event aligned with Melania’s ongoing commitment to support military families and children, reflecting her “Be Best” initiative.

Another significant aspect mentioned was the “Season of Service” campaign in collaboration with the American Red Cross. This initiative focuses on honoring military families by encouraging volunteers nationwide to create and personalize holiday care packages, fostering kindness during the season.

Melania commented, “Every package built here today carries American values. Each symbolizes liberty, love, community, and honor. They’re delivered with heart. We frequently talk about our service members’ bravery—correctly so—but we must also highlight the courage of their families, particularly the spouses who juggle their aspirations and family life.”

She added, “As we embrace this season of hope, please remember to prioritize your well-being. It’s crucial for both your family’s and your own future.”

The event underscored the resilience and commitments associated with military life, particularly emphasizing the spouses’ unique challenges. A statement from the White House noted Mrs. Trump’s gratitude for their service and the necessity of supporting those separated from loved ones during the holidays.

She expressed deep appreciation for their contributions, reinforcing the need to stand with military families who face the holidays apart from their loved ones.

Following her remarks, the First and Second Ladies, along with cabinet spouses, engaged with 50 military spouses to assemble around 700 “comfort kits.” These included Rice Krispies treats, granola bars, and handwritten cards. They also joined in crafting holiday messages for deployed service members.

In one card, Melania wrote, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you for your service. Our nation is proud of you!”

Held in a large hangar at Joint Base Andrews, the event featured an impressive backdrop of F-16 fighters. As the scent of jet fuel blended with evergreens, holiday music filled the space, while steaming cocoa and trays of cookies enhanced the cheerful and inviting atmosphere.
