October Notes and Reflections

Welcome to October! For those who might not have noticed, Joe has taken a little break to enjoy some time on the golf course. I’ll be here taking care of Screencaps today and Friday – so feel free to keep my inbox busy!

Let’s kick off this Thursday morning by celebrating the Yankees as they move on to the ALDS, largely thanks to their impressive performance against the Red Sox during a rather one-sided Wild Card Series.

Of course, the journey isn’t over yet, and I’m not breaking out the champagne just yet. But honestly, what’s better than winning a Wild Card Series? Beating the Boston Red Sox in that series!

And you know what’s even more thrilling? Sweeping them clean and making it an absolute rout. In just those two games, the Red Sox managed to score a mere two runs while the Yankees piled on a whopping 18. It was something.

The Yankees’ pitching was nothing short of spectacular, and their batting lineup is firing on all cylinders. They’re playing with so much confidence, even Sonny Gray couldn’t slow them down with his neck covered in whatever it was. I mean, what a series, right? But as I said, the task isn’t complete yet. Next up is Tampa Bay, and I expect the Rays to be a much tougher opponent than the Sox.

Now that it’s October, it really is time to shine under the bright lights.

Speaking of bright lights, NFL sideline reporter Melanie Collins doesn’t shy away from the pressure. She consistently delivers, regardless of the circumstance. Just the other day, as September came to a close, she sent out a farewell post that had quite a few people talking.

She didn’t just stop at football; she included motivational quotes and even some fun selfies. It was, honestly, a perfect way to send off the month. It’s all about staying a step ahead, isn’t it?

Daughter’s Wedding

– Neil writes:

Hey SeanJo, congrats on your daughter’s wedding! But I have to ask, how much did you stress over your father of the bride toast? I must have rewritten mine 18 times, and my sister, who’s a writer, gave it a look. Her main takeaway? I’d be crying during it. But guess what? No tears, and it ended up being a tight eight minutes that went over great. I realized afterward that nobody was there for my speech anyway; they were there for the couple! Wishing the newlyweds a blessed future!

SeanJo

Thanks for reaching out, Neil. Honestly, I didn’t stress about my toast because, well, I wasn’t even asked to give one! I quickly realized that no one was there for me during the ceremony. Our priority was making sure everything went as our daughter wanted, which included the speakers. There were two, and I wasn’t among them!

She probably feared I’d embarrass her or say something inappropriate – which she might not be wrong about! I did write her a note that she read the morning of her big day, and that meant a lot more than any toast would have!

Hello Joe,

Here’s my homemade sourdough bread boule.

Party Ribs Again

– Homebrew Bill writes:

They were on sale, and I had time to use the smoker. Cheers!

SeanJo

You had to go for it. I mean, ribs on sale and time on your hands? Perfect combo for the smoker. Nobody does it quite like you, Homebrew Bill. Keep the meat pics coming!

Grilling in Vegas

– Bob writes:

Hey Sean, greetings from North Las Vegas! Another great weekend spent on the patio with football and grilling. You can’t go wrong with cheeseburgers and fries, right? I grilled some flat iron along with Roma tomatoes. Just wanted to say I appreciate you and the entire Outkick team. Keep up the fantastic work!

SeanJo

Thanks, Bob, for the kind words and for sharing your grilling adventures. It really doesn’t get better than relaxing on the patio while enjoying football and a good cookout!

MLB Playoff and Birthday Meat

– Galen in SBNC writes:

Hey SeanJo,

It’s great to see you stepping up during the Wild Card Round. I hope you tackle Thursday and Friday well. Just trust your instincts because that’s what got you here!

I haven’t shared my “meat” in a while, but I thought this moment was a good one for it. I started my 69th birthday with a dozen raw oysters overlooking Sunset Beach, NC, and later grilled some thick Filet Mignons with loaded baked potatoes and asparagus. Such quality fun!

I know how much SC “Respects Summer,” and I totally agree, so it was a bit of a kick to have to turn on the grill light for the first time this Fall…but honestly, it was worth it!

Here’s to an exciting 70th year ahead in our beautiful country!

SeanJo

Galen, that’s exactly what I aim to do each time – trust my abilities. Most of the time, that pays off. Happy 69th birthday, and as someone with a somewhat juvenile sense of humor, it’s a memorable milestone!

Thanks for sharing your “meat” and a quick reminder: there are plenty of folks who fire up the grill all year round, even when it’s snowing.

That wraps up the first day of October. Enjoy your Thursday! If you’re not excited for the Buccaneers and Cowboys game tonight, remember there’s a Wild Card Series that needs deciding.

The Phillies and the Braves are facing off in primetime – the winner will move on to take on the Dodgers in the Division Series.

Keep the emails rolling in! I’ll need a few for Friday and Sunday, so the inbox is open. You can send me anything and everything at [email protected].
