Melinda French Gates backs Biden in her first-ever presidential endorsement

Melinda French Gates announced on Thursday that she will support President Biden’s reelection bid, marking the first time she has done so.

“I’ve never endorsed a presidential candidate before,” the philanthropist said. Said “But this time I cannot remain silent because this election has such profound implications for women and families,” she wrote on social platform X on Thursday.

“Women need leaders who care about the issues they face and are committed to protecting their safety, health, economic power, reproductive rights, and their ability to freely and fully participate in a functioning democracy. In this election, the contrast could not be higher and the stakes could not be higher,” she continued.

French Gates, the former wife of billionaire Microsoft founder Bill Gates, also linked to a CNN opinion piece on Thursday. she He explained why he supports Biden.

“Because my work on gender equality and global health often requires me to work with leaders of both parties, I have avoided speaking publicly about who I voted for in past elections,” French Gates said in the CNN article.

“But this year is different.”

In her opinion piece, French Gates also argues that former President Trump’s “first term put women’s health at risk, made them less safe, and took away their basic freedoms.”

In a recent interview with “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King, French Gates revealed her intention to vote for the current president in the upcoming presidential election, saying, “I cannot vote for a man who suppresses women’s reproductive rights and says such heinous things about women.”

“So I definitely won’t be voting for Trump, I’m voting for Biden.”
