The 2026 Golden Globe Awards kicked off red carpet season with quite an impression on Sunday night. Two standout naked dresses—one worn by Jennifer Lopez and the other by an unexpectedly adventurous Jennifer Lawrence—drew attention alongside a range of more classic black and white looks.
“I think we might start seeing a return to color on the carpet, especially looking ahead to the Oscars,” Melissa Rivers mentioned to Page Six Style.
While many attendees famous for their fashion choices, including Ariana Grande, Emily Blunt, Selena Gomez, and Colman Domingo, opted for black, white, or both, a few outfits raised eyebrows. Teyana Taylor, in a revealing Schiaparelli number, and Jenna Ortega, adorned in a fringed Dilara Findikoglu dress, particularly caught Rivers’ attention.
Here’s what Rivers had to say about the night’s best and worst dressed.
ariana grande
“That was one of my first big ‘wow’ moments because she wore that black dress while sporting a ponytail. It sent a statement. I loved her confidence in sticking to black.”
emily blunt
“It’s what I refer to as ‘painfully chic.’ Beyond chic.”
selena gomez
“She looked fantastic. The vintage Chanel with the white and black combination and that red lip—such a complete look! Not a single hair was out of place.”
amanda seyfried
“A modern take on Grace Kelly—so reminiscent of a classic movie star. It just worked. Effortless and cute.”
kate hudson
“She reminded me of vintage Kate Hudson—’Welcome back!’ So perfect. She pulls off comfort in dress so well. That specific dress, though, it didn’t really suit her.”
dakota fanning
“There was a bit of competition between the Fanning sisters. Elle is a fashion darling, always has been, but Dakota stole the spotlight last night. You might not see it in photos, but the way the fabric moved, the beading and fit—it was truly stunning.”
Colman Domingo
“He has this effortless style, which works for him. I think he’s setting a new standard for men’s fashion, going beyond traditional choices.”
jennifer lawrence
“Honestly, I’m kind of over naked dresses—they never seem to fade and need to go away for a bit. But I enjoyed the buzz she created with, ‘Oh my god, is that Jennifer Lawrence?’ She did something different, and I liked it.”
jennifer lopez
“She and Beyoncé can pull off a nude dress like no one else. But, personally, it didn’t sit right with me. Sometimes, a dress simply isn’t a good match. The heavy embroidery and that exaggerated mermaid hem… I almost felt like she thought, ‘Why not give this a go?'”
Teyana Taylor
“From the front, I thought it was a win. But then she turned around with that bow, and I was like, ‘Not so much.’ I can’t see Schiaparelli approving it that way. It felt a bit like the stylist was trying to add finishing touches in an odd manner.”
Parker Posey
“Honestly, I just don’t get this one. It felt overly complicated—too much going on.”
jenna ortega
“The whole Goth vibe… it’s not clicking for me. I’d love to see her in something else—something surprising, preferably good.”
walton goggins
“I met Walton Goggins last night—such a nice guy, genuinely kind. But that gold shirt… it kind of hurt my soul. I bought some holiday-colored socks thinking they’d look cute with loafers. Haven’t worn them yet, though.”
