Recent records reveal that Sincere Parker, a guard for the Memphis basketball team, was arrested this week due to an alleged assault on his girlfriend back in May.
The 22-year-old was taken into custody on Saturday in Shelby County, Tennessee, facing charges of assault and aggravated vandalism after several reports came to light.
The incident, which occurred on May 27 at Parker’s downtown Memphis apartment, involved a physical altercation. The woman reportedly stated that during an argument, Parker “pushed her, hit her in the face, then grabbed her by the neck, applying pressure that made it hard for her to breathe.”
According to reports, she sustained a bruise and bleeding in her mouth and expressed to a Memphis police investigator that she was “fearing for her safety.”
It’s also noted that Parker allegedly damaged his girlfriend’s iPhone in the process.
Parker transferred to Memphis from McNeese State in April after averaging 12.2 points over 34 games last season.
While the alleged incident occurred in late May, it wasn’t reported until June 12. The University of Memphis has acknowledged the situation but stated they cannot comment due to the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, Parker’s arrest aligns with recent issues at the university; the NCAA has placed Memphis athletics on probation after findings that an academic advisor had compensated two softball players to assist male basketball players with their coursework.
The NCAA fined the school $30,000, and the probationary period is expected to last until July 15, 2027.
University President Bill Hardgrave expressed satisfaction in reaching a consensus with the NCAA, emphasizing that the university is dedicated to compliance and taking the necessary actions to move forward.
