
At least two people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting at a block party in Memphis, Tennessee, on Saturday, police said.
“Follow-up investigation revealed a total of eight victims, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene,” Memphis Police said in a statement. Updated statement Posted in X.
Police had previously announced that 16 people had been shot dead.
Police said one of the injured remains in critical condition, but one has been released.
“This was an unauthorized block party,” police said. About 200 to 300 people attended the block party.
At least two suspects are being investigated. CBS News reported: Memphis Police Interim Chief Cerelyn Davis was quoted as saying.
“We believe at least two people fired their weapons during this incident,” Davis told CBS News.
Memphis police could not be reached for further comment.
