Memphis police fatally shoot armed suspect in domestic disturbance

Police responding to a domestic disturbance early Friday in Memphis shot and killed an armed suspect, and an injured person at the scene was hospitalized, authorities said.

Memphis Police said in a statement on social media that officers who arrived around 3 a.m. heard a loud commotion and found an injured man.

An armed suspect was charged by police and one officer opened fire, the statement said. The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died, police said. It is not clear what kind of weapon the suspect had.

Police said the injured man was also taken to the hospital in critical condition, but his condition is currently stable. Police did not say what kind of injuries the man sustained.

One officer was injured at the scene, unrelated to the altercation, but was taken to a hospital in non-serious condition.

Police said the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will investigate the shooting. No further information was immediately released.
