Meryl Streep and Martin Short Spark Romance Speculation
Meryl Streep and Martin Short have reignited romance rumors during a recent outing at a Tom Hanks play.
On Tuesday, they were seen chatting with Hanks backstage at the premiere of his new play, “This World of Tomorrow,” held at the Griffin Theater in New York City.
The co-stars of “The Bill Murders” appeared in high spirits, smiling while conversing with Hanks, his wife Rita Wilson, and their son Chet, along with Steve Martin and his wife Ann Stringfield.
Speculation about a potential relationship between Streep, 76, and Short, 75, first emerged in January 2024, when they were spotted looking cozy together at the Golden Globe Awards.
At that time, a representative for Short mentioned to People that they were “just very good friends and nothing more.” A month later, Short took to Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast to deny the dating rumors, stating, “We’re not a couple. We’re just very close friends.”
However, reports suggest that despite their denials, the two may have been dating for more than a year. A source claimed, “Meryl couldn’t help but fall in love with Martin. He’s a gentleman, he makes her laugh, he’s an all-around positive guy. She loves being around him.”
In a separate incident, Streep’s other co-star from “Only Murders in the Building,” Selena Gomez, was seen appearing to text her during the Emmy Awards. Gomez seemed to mention Short to her husband, Benny Blanco, saying, “He’s been texting Meryl.” Notably, Streep did not attend the ceremony.
Interestingly, Streep and Short portray lovers in the Hulu series, and they were photographed sharing a kiss on set back in May.
