Mesa Homeowners Card Immediately Suspended

Previously, I discussed the Mesa Homeowners Card, which allowed users to accumulate points with their mortgage payments and offered various appealing benefits. I had my doubts about whether it was too good to be true, and it seems my intuition was correct.

Mesa Homeowners Card Discontinued

Mesa has reached out to cardholders, informing them that their accounts are being closed immediately.

We’re writing to let you know that your Mesa Homeowners Card account will be closed, effective immediately. Consequently, your credit card is now disabled, and you cannot make new purchases or earn Mesa points anymore. We will update you on your Mesa point balance separately. This closure is not related to your account status or any actions you might have taken.

In recent days, reports indicated that all transactions on the Mesa Homeowners Card were being declined, which seemed quite suspicious. The company hadn’t been forthcoming about this situation, but when customers inquired, they were told it was a temporary issue. It’s not too surprising to learn that the reality was more complex.

Sadly, it appears that existing points balances cannot be transferred to travel partners. Although, at least in theory, this feature was removed from the app. A commenter named Jay mentioned a workaround that’s functioning for now—though who knows how long it’ll actually last.

To use the workaround, simply uninstall the Mesa app and then reinstall it. After that, switch your phone to airplane mode and disconnect from the internet.

Next, open the app. It will attempt to update but will fail due to the lack of internet. If it doesn’t succeed, you’ll see the login screen again. Wait a moment, reconnect to the internet, and you should be able to log in normally, accessing the usual transfer options. This might bypass the app’s updates that have removed certain functionalities.

Mesa Homeowner’s Card Was Impressive

The Mesa Homeowner’s Card launched in late 2024 but lasted just over a year before its abrupt end.

The card’s main attraction was its absence of an annual fee and its point-earning structure of 1 point for every dollar spent on a mortgage, capped at 100,000 points per year. Remarkably, you didn’t even need to use the card for mortgage payments; you just had to make $1,000 in eligible purchases monthly.

Additionally, it featured several unique bonus categories, offering 3x points on various home and family-related expenses, such as home decor, home improvement, contractors, and more.

It seemed like Mesa wanted to carve its niche in the mortgage market similar to Bild’s strategy. Quite ironically, while Mesa has gone bankrupt, Bild continues to thrive with a valuation in the billions. I suppose it comes down to Bild’s broader approach to partnerships across different sectors, while Mesa focused narrowly on credit cards—potentially a misstep.

Conclusion

The Mesa Homeowners Card has officially been shut down, and all cardholders have had their cards canceled. Honestly, the signs of trouble were apparent, especially with trades being denied last week despite the company’s denials. The concept was overly generous, lacking sustainable revenue streams from its users.
