Meta Appoints Ex-Trump Official and Senator's Wife to Key Position

Meta Platforms Announces New President

On Monday, Meta Platforms appointed Dina Powell McCormick, a former adviser to President Trump, as its new president and vice chair. This technology conglomerate oversees notable platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Powell McCormick, who is married to Pennsylvania Republican Senator Dave McCormick, previously served as the vice presidential national security adviser during Trump’s first term and held various roles during George W. Bush’s presidency. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, commented on her selection, stating that her extensive experience on Wall Street and within governmental roles uniquely qualifies her to direct the company’s significant investments.

Zuckerberg noted, “Dina’s combination of experience at the highest levels of global finance and deep relationships around the world makes her uniquely qualified to help manage Meta’s next phase of growth as president and vice chair.” The press release highlighted this as part of their strategic positioning.

Following the announcement, Donald Trump praised the decision on Truth Social, describing Powell McCormick as an “amazing and extremely talented person” who served with distinction.

It’s worth mentioning that Zuckerberg’s platform has faced criticism for its censorship of conservative viewpoints until recently. After Trump’s win in November 2024, he met with Zuckerberg, who also attended Trump’s inauguration in January 2025.

Powell McCormick, an Egyptian immigrant, boasts a 16-year tenure as a partner at Goldman Sachs and was a top executive at BDT & MSD Partners. Her financial acumen is expected to be beneficial for Meta as it aims to expand its data center and AI infrastructure. She will play a vital role in shaping the company’s strategy and execution.

This marks the second significant hire from the Trump administration, as early in January, Curtis Joseph Mahoney was named Meta’s chief legal officer after serving as deputy U.S. trade representative during Trump’s presidency.

In other developments, UFC CEO Dana White, a known Trump ally, is set to join the company’s board of directors in 2025, further solidifying the connection between Meta and figures in Trump’s circle.
