Meta Launches Super PAC to Support AI-Friendly Candidates
Meta, the tech company founded by Mark Zuckerberg, has kicked off a new Super PAC, dubbed the American Technology Excellence Project. This initiative aims to back state candidates from both parties who align with Meta’s vision on AI development and regulation. According to the company, this launch comes in response to a growing set of inconsistent regulations that could stifle innovation and investment in AI.
Reports indicate that Meta’s Super PAC was established to counter what they see as burdensome technology policies emerging in various states. The announcement emphasizes the company’s strategy to focus on state-level regulations, especially since it appears federal technology policy reforms may not be forthcoming anytime soon.
This Super PAC is headed by seasoned Republican strategist Brian Baker and the Democratic consulting group Hilltop Public Solutions, with Meta investing substantial resources—tens of millions—into the project. “We’re at a crucial juncture for US innovation. We need state legislators who will champion our technological future instead of handing it over to global competitors,” Baker stated.
In comments shared with Breitbart News, Brian Rice, Meta’s VP of public policy, expressed concerns about how fragmented regulations could impact American innovation. He noted, “This is why we’re dedicated to advancing AI development and advocating for national candidates who support US tech leadership, both domestically and internationally.”
The American Technology Excellence Project centers on three principal goals: defending US technology firms, promoting AI advancements, and empowering parents to manage their children’s interaction with online platforms and AI technologies. While Meta hasn’t released detailed plans yet, they assure their commitment to supporting the development of AI and backing candidates who champion US technological dominance.
Interestingly, this move by Meta follows a similar initiative by OpenAI and Andreessen Horowitz, who have also set up their own Super PAC aimed at supporting candidates favorable to technology.
Additionally, leaders in Silicon Valley, including venture capitalists and executives, have recently united to create a PAC called Reading The Future. This group is focused on advocating for pro-AI policies, underpinned by over $100 million in funding, signaling a strong interest from tech leaders to influence the upcoming midterm elections.
