Meta Welcomes New President with Strong Financial Ties

Meta has recently brought on board a significant figure from Wall Street.

Dina Powell McCormick, a former Goldman Sachs executive, known for her connections with key financial leaders globally and for advising two U.S. presidents, is stepping in as the company’s inaugural president and vice chair.

With decades of experience in establishing relationships with sovereign wealth funds during her tenure at Goldman Sachs, Powell McCormick will be instrumental in fostering strategic partnerships and managing Meta’s ambitious $600 billion infrastructure plan over the next decade.

This news is undoubtedly positive for investors. It signals that Meta, after investing heavily in AI talent over the last year, is open to forging global alliances and securing new capital.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta, expressed his confidence in her capabilities: “Dina’s vast experience in global finance and her extensive relationships worldwide make her ideally suited to guide Meta’s next phase of growth in this new role.”

This transition occurs as the company strives to remain competitive in the rapidly advancing AI landscape.

Meta has poured billions into AI projects, including a substantial $15 billion agreement with Scale AI for data labeling and other key investments. Nevertheless, investors are eager for Meta to explore external funding sources and pursue the strategic partnerships that its rivals, like Nvidia and OpenAI, have been actively engaging in.

Recently, several tech giants have sought high-stakes collaborations and investments in the Middle East, tapping into the region’s wealth and ambitions in the AI sector.

Powell McCormick’s association with Zuckerberg dates back to April 2025 when she joined the Meta board, alongside other influential figures such as Patrick Collison and Marc Andreessen. She resigned from the board last month ahead of her new role.

Before joining Meta, she served as vice chair and head of global client services at BDT & MSD Partners but will remain on their advisory board. It’s worth noting, she is married to David McCormick, who once led Bridgewater Associates and is a Republican senator from Pennsylvania.

Reflecting on her mission, Powell McCormick said, “My focus is on investing in economic development funding globally to facilitate effective infrastructure spending that drives job creation and meaningful impact.”

Originally from Egypt, she immigrated to the U.S. at the age of six and began a remarkable journey that saw her rise to the positions of vice president for national security during two administrations, and later, partner at Goldman Sachs. During her time in these roles, she worked on significant initiatives, including the Abraham Accords and creating programs to support women entrepreneurs.

Her peers clearly hold her in high regard. Recently, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde praised her as “a fearless woman who acts as a bridge between East and West on the world stage.” Likewise, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon referred to her as an invaluable asset to global leaders.

Jamie Dimon, JPMorgan’s CEO, has known her for two decades and highlighted her exceptional reputation and strong relationships, noting that she is a remarkable banker who operates at the highest level.
