Job Cuts Announced by Meta
Meta is set to eliminate around 700 positions, a source familiar with the details confirmed. These layoffs will affect several critical divisions, including Reality Labs, Facebook, recruiting, and sales.
A spokesperson from the company explained that this move is part of a broader restructuring initiative. They emphasized that Meta frequently revises its workforce to align with its evolving objectives.
Additionally, the organization is hoping to relocate some of the employees impacted by the layoffs to other available positions where feasible. The spokesperson mentioned, “Teams at Meta consistently undergo restructuring to ensure we are optimally positioned to reach our goals. Whenever possible, we’re looking for alternative roles for those whose jobs may be affected.”
This decision comes as Meta is grappling with financial strain due to substantial investments aimed at developing artificial intelligence infrastructure, as reported by Reuters.
Earlier this month, there were indications that over 20% of Meta’s workforce could face layoffs as the company aims to cut costs and boost operational efficiency through AI advancements. As of December 31, Meta employed about 79,000 individuals.
Amid these considerable job cuts, the company is also facing legal challenges. Recently, a jury in Los Angeles found Meta and Google liable, ordering them to pay $3 million in damages. This lawsuit alleges that their platforms are intentionally designed to create addiction among young users.
