Mets’ Bohan Adderley leaning on Jazz Chisholm Jr. for advice

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Bohan Adderly just signed a team last year and isn't the outlook for the most prominent Mets.

However, the 18-year-old from the Bahamas already has a pretty good major league connection.

Originally from Nassau, he was close to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and frequently contacted Yankees infielders, where Chisholm grew up playing with Adeli's older brother Bakari in the Bahamas.

“I've known him since he was a child,” Chisholm said Sunday. “I'm pretty happy with him seeing what he's doing now. … Friends, I saw this guy turn into a guy. I saw him go 6 feet crazy next year, from being like 5 feet one. It was crazy.”

The young Adeley, now a 6-foot-3 infielder, played in the Dominican Summer League last year and won the numbers to graduate to the Florida Complex League this year.

On Sunday he took part in a spring breakout at Cactus Park in Palm Beach, facing some of the Washington Nationals' best young players along with many other top Mets prospects.

Correct swing Adeli stood out on 27 stolen bases in 47 games.

No one on the team had more than 16 people.

“It's always been part of my game,” Adderley said. “My goal is to showcase as much as I can.”

He is also looking for greater discipline on the plate and calming down on the field.

“I want to show you what I can,” Adderly said. “Last year, I didn't do as much as I wanted. I'm an emotional player. When I go through the ups and downs, I have to learn to stay calm.”

Wearing a chisholm should help.

“I try to talk to him every day,” Adderly said. “Learn from him and use him as a tool to choose his brain.”

Chisholm compared Adderley to Top Rangers prospect Shortstop Sebastian Walcott.

“I think he's really good,” Chisholm said. “I think he'll be exactly like Sebastian, and that's the goal I got for him. Sebastian is doing him, so hopefully he can get to that.”

Ryan Lambert is considered by some to be closer to the future. And he certainly has an arm.

The 22-year-old right-hander, drafted in the eighth round last year, said he came to the top in Oklahoma at 102 mph while facing Wichita on Sunday.

He said he was “pretty curious” to see if he could throw more harder.

“I'm an adrenaline guy,” Lambert said. “I love big situations. I think they bring the best out of you. You're really nervous, you're using that energy and you don't know what will happen. Who knows what I'll touch in the future?”
