Mets’ Brett Baty-Luisangel Acuña decision becoming even more challenging

The decision to make a second-base has become even more difficult for manager Carlos Mendoza. Carlos Mendoza is juggling two talented options.

Luisangel Acuña plays well.

So is Brett Baty, who suddenly got a nod against Micholas on the right mile on Friday.

Once in play, Acuña went 21-8 (.381) with .458 OBP and four steels in his previous seven games.

Baty had 22-for-7 (.318) in his previous six games, triple and two RBIs.

“We’re trying to find a balance to keep it fresh in some way in game action. Both are playing well, so it’s a lot more difficult,” the Mets said before facing the Cardinals at Citifield. “But that’s a good problem.”

This issue will take on some additional bets in the coming days.

Acuña and Baty have filled out Jeff McNeil, and their rehabilitation assignments continue on Saturday and Sunday at Double-A Binghamton.

After back-to-back, he could be activated – and he would likely return one of him to Triple A Syracuse.

The scenario is likely, but it’s not clear.

The Mets carry Jose Azocar as the fourth outfielder, and Azocar cannot be chosen without being exposed to exemptions.

Acuña – Those who start bringing in reps again at Center Field can help fill in for the injured Joseciri, but will Batty become the main backup infielder, assuming a backup outfield spot?

“It’s too early to tell you. I think we’ll cross that bridge when we have to,” Mendoza said. “They are both playing well, so I hope that will be a very difficult decision. [of who leaves when McNeil joins]. ”

Acuña carved out his role as a part-time player who began adapting to major league pitching, and he can really do great defense and become a valuable late game pinch runner.

Once in play he took the Mets by stealing (5) and earned his fourth run (8) despite being significantly shorter playing time than the regular.

His ability to do everything, and many running, prompted the club to look for other paths to keep him around big league teams.

He played 31 games last season at Syracuse and Center Field, resuming his spot to acquire pre-game replies.

Mets outfield coach Antoan Richardson has been working with Ackna since spring training and believes that Ackna knows what he is doing at the centre.

When an infielder moves into the grass, in the outfield, there is a challenge when there is much more ground that can be covered in any direction. [degrees]Acuña The Infielder Works 180 [degrees]Richardson added that Acuña is proof of a simple study.

“He’s very athletic and extremely talented,” Richardson said of Acuña, where Sprint Speed was ranked as the seventh best in MLB entry play. “I think he has a chance to be a special place anywhere on the field. If you put him in the center field, I think he’s special.”

Mets Hope Batty has the same type of ceiling as his bat.

Batty shows it to minors and owns .899 OPS in 94 games against Syracuse.

He showed it during spring training.

However, he has never replicated the results against major league pitching like he has now. Batty has scored multiple hits in consecutive games, almost doubleping his OPS (.259 to .512) in four games.

Does he understand that?

“In Minnesota, he got to really good fastballs and hit hardline drives on short stops,” Mendoza said. “[Thursday] We saw him stay in the cutter and go in the opposite direction, [then] Use the entire field to pull the pitch into the line in the right field.

“When he does that, he’s a pretty good hitter.”

A week ago, the Mets couldn’t bring McNeil back to Queens quickly enough, as their second-based options couldn’t do anything with the bat.

Currently Mendoza is wrestling with any hot hitter and bench, and Baty has given the majority of the rep to the honcho, but he frequently inserts Ackna in the game.

Deciding on a lineup can be a difficult call, and determining an approaching roster can also be a difficult call.

“I hope so,” Mendoza said.
