Mets join Jose Iglesias for ‘OMG’ performance at Citi Field event

Oh my goodness! The Mets are crazy about their teammate’s hot new song.

During a Thursday night event at Citi Field, Mets players took part in a live performance by Jose Iglesias and showed their love for his new song, “OMG.”

As the chorus began, Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Martinez, Mark Vientos and other teammates crowded around Iglesias, who is known musically as Candelita.

Not only is Iglesias batting .400 with six RBIs in his debut season with the Mets, but he is also emerging as a promising reserve infielder.

Iglesias first introduced the song to his teammates when he used it as his entrance song after joining the team in late May.

It has now become a must-have for the team.

The Mets have won consecutive games in the Subway Series against the Yankees, returning to a .500 winning percentage with a 39-39 record, and they play this game in the clubhouse every time they win.

Choreographed hand movements to teammates’ new songs have also been introduced and can be seen after home runs and good plays.

“We sing it and hum it all the time,” relief pitcher Adam Ottavino said. Athletic“That’s definitely the best-hit ball in the clubhouse.”

Jose Iglesias joins SNY Mets reporter Steve Gelbs to talk about his single “OMG,” which was released on Friday.

“OMG,” considered by many to be the theme song for the Mets’ 2024 breakout year, is set to be released on Friday.

“This is all about energy. This is all about winning.” Iglesias told SNY. Speaking in an interview ahead of the album’s official release on Friday, he said: “The guys love it and I’m so honored to have done it. The fans love it. We’re on a roll and everything’s going great. Oh man, I’m so happy.”

Not all of Iglesias’ teammates knew about his singing ability before he joined the team.

Vientos first noticed Iglesias’ off-field talent when, during training, the veteran showed him the music video for “No Voy A Volver,” a collaboration with Cuban musician Lennier.

The track is 1.7 million views on YouTube.

“I was like, ‘Bro, you sound pretty good,'” Vientos said. According to MLB.com:“I was surprised. I had no idea.”

Iglesias, who made his MLB debut with the Red Sox in 2011, signed a minor league contract with the Mets in December 2023.

He began the season with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets, batting .273 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs.

The 34-year-old recorded three hits in his second start on June 3 and has been a steady contributor since then, posting a .905 OPS in 16 games.

Iglesias is no doubt hoping to achieve similar success outside of the diamond with new music and a growing music career.

You can bet his new music will be played when the Mets open a three-game series against the Astros on Friday night at Citi Field.
