Mets Make Roster Changes
Tommy Pham’s time with the Mets is set to conclude in two weeks as the team brings in another experienced player. He learned about this change on Sunday evening, when sources revealed the club had signed Austin Slater.
Slater, at 33 years old, played 11 games for the Marlins this season, posting a disappointing .460 OPS before being let go.
Pham, now 38, joined the Mets on a minor league deal but struggled significantly, going 0-for-13 in limited play. He started in left field during the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday but went 0-for-2 and didn’t play in the second game. The Mets lost both games against the Rockies, 3-1 and 3-0.
McLean’s Start Statistics
Nolan McLean felt “pretty happy” with his performance in Sunday’s game, although it wasn’t his best outing this season. The rookie pitched through the sixth inning in the first game but was ejected after failing to get an out with the bases loaded, which contributed to the team’s 3-1 defeat.
McLean faced challenges throughout the game, especially in the fourth inning, which added to his pitch count. He allowed two runs—one earned—while striking out seven batters, with a total of five hits and two walks, finishing with 91 pitches thrown.
“I thought my stuff was in a good spot,” McLean commented. “I’m pretty happy with this game. We had some innings with traffic, but I think we did a good job overall.”
Despite experiencing four consecutive losses when McLean has started, he has managed to keep his earned runs to three or fewer in each game this season. So far, he maintains a 2.55 ERA across six starts.
With the current lineup struggling, is there extra pressure? McLean reflected, “You can see it in the clubhouse. We know how hard everyone works. We just have to stay patient. These players are capable.”
Meanwhile, Jorge Polanco has begun light workouts as he recovers from a right wrist contusion, coupled with ongoing issues of right Achilles bursitis, which have been present since the season opener. Coach Carlos Mendoza mentioned that Polanco is being assessed on a weekly basis.
