The OMG show goes from coast to coast.
Veteran infielder Jose Iglesias, who revived his career with the Mets last season and was a spark plug during his run to the NLCS, has signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres, John Heyman confirmed Wednesday morning.
The agreement includes an invitation to the MLB camp in San Diego.
The 35-year-old, who spent time with the Padres Triple A affiliate in 2023 but didn't appear in that season's MLB game, joined the Mets on a minor league contract last season and became a key player to them after being called for the 2024 campaign for two months.
In 85 games, Iglesias hit .337 with 291 plate appearances with .830 OPS, 4 Homer, 16 doubles, 26 RBI and 39 runs, recording 3.1 wars (per baseball reference) during that period.
Along the way, the song “OMG,” released by Iglesias last season, became the team's national anthem as they celebrated a big moment with an OMG sign in the dugout.
At the start of spring training last month, David Stearns, president of the Mets baseball business, showed that a reunion with Iglesias is unlikely as the team wanted to evaluate younger players and maintain the flexibility of the roster.

Iglesias appeared to have not heard of the Mets in a conversation with Heyman last month.
“It hurts because we definitely started something that wasn't finished yet,” Iglesias told Heyman. “It took a lot of time to get where we got it. That hurts. I definitely think it's business. But it definitely hurts.”
