Mets on better short-term track than Yankees with Juan Soto

Perhaps it means something that Juan Soto didn't speak to any of his 2024 Yankees teammates during free agency. However, he also pointed out that he had no conversations with Mets players.

That probably suggests that this was a financial decision first, second, and third, and that he didn't need to hear from former or future teammates to sway either way. Probably.

And if you do, that's fine. Yankees fans may scream betrayal. But this hypocritically overlooks the fact that no organization in the past half-century has poached players from other teams for free-agent salaries like the Yankees. And I don't remember pinstriped supporters feeling anything more than pity, pity, or even a good laugh for fan bases elsewhere who were mourning the loss of their valued players.

The last time Soto was able to choose where he worked was as a teenager when the Nationals signed him with a $1.5 million bonus. He didn't have a choice when he was traded first to the Padres and then to the Yankees. Can you imagine if you were to move from your company to another across the country, and then again? That might make you think less about loyalty and more about yourself. I don't know.
