Pete Alonso will end up returning to the Home Run Derby.
Hours after being announced as the Mets’ lone representative at next week’s All-Star Game, Alonso revealed in an Instagram post that he will also be taking part in the Home Run Derby, a competition he has already won twice.
Alonso’s Instagram post featured a television screen surrounded by flames, showing footage of past Derby appearances and wins as well as other Mets highlights.

He won the event back-to-back in 2019 and 2021, but the 2020 Derby was canceled due to COVID-19 and he lost back-to-back years to the Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez in the 2023 Home Run Derby in Seattle.
Alonso has hit 18 home runs for the Mets this season and has 210 in his six-year major league career.
