Brett Baty’s Memorable All-Star Break

This year’s All-Star break turned out to be quite memorable for Brett Baty.

The Mets’ third baseman wasn’t in Atlanta for the festivities, but he took advantage of the time off from baseball to pop the question to his girlfriend, Anna Spries.

In posts shared on their joint Instagram account, captured with the help of photographer Jordan Simone, Baty proposed to Spries on Wednesday evening.

The couple shared a heartfelt caption: “Forever with my best friend.”

They received an outpouring of congratulations in the comments, including a shout-out from the wife of Mets All-Star Francisco Lindor. “Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you both,” she wrote.

A delightful photo showed Baty down on one knee, asking the big question against the beautiful backdrop of Cape May, New Jersey.

Their relationship has mostly stayed under the radar, although they’ve shared occasional updates on Instagram since they began dating in June 2022. Baty commemorated their first anniversary with a post last month.

Baty hails from Texas, while Spries is originally from Pittsburgh. She played volleyball at Binghamton University from 2019 to 2023 and stood at 6 feet tall as a middle-blocker. She captained her team, earned a Bachelor’s in Accounting, and now works as a marketing coordinator.

Meanwhile, Baty is part of the Mets’ Double-A affiliate and has played 75 games this season with a .226 batting average and .685 OPS. He’s hit nine home runs this year, aiming to surpass his career best of 108 games played in 2023.

Now, of course, he’ll be able to say he’s playing alongside his fiancée for the rest of the season.
