Katia Leggero Lindor, wife of New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and an accomplished violinist, has been appointed to the inaugural committee of Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani.
Highlighted as the host of “The Unaparent Podcast” among a star-studded committee list revealed by Mamdani recently, she, however, didn’t attract as much attention as her celebrity peers.
This role isn’t particularly unexpected. In a self-description that reads “Breastfeeding + Homebirth + Social Justice Advocates,” she showed her support for Democratic Socialists during the most recent election.
She expressed in a Sportskeeda article, “It is not against my interests to support politicians who fight for immigrants, artists, workers, and all people who deserve to live a dignified life, regardless of their economic status.” It’s a perspective that aligns with her advocacy.
She also made a pointed statement regarding societal issues, commenting, “PS, your enemy is not immigrants. They are the 1 percent who amass wealth without providing you with basic needs.” With her husband earning around $34.1 million annually, this was quite a striking remark.
The inaugural committee features notable individuals, including actors Cynthia Nixon and John Turturro, and will assist Mr. Mamdani, who assumes office on January 1. Transition officials noted this committee aims to reflect the city’s diverse wishes.
Mamdani highlighted in a statement, “I am honored to join with some of the city’s most creative and experienced people to create an inauguration that is truly by New Yorkers, for New Yorkers.”
Leggero Lindor described this event as a celebration of the movement that led to this victory, signifying a fresh chapter for the city.
Interestingly, Leggero Lindor is a classically trained musician and initially connected with her husband through his Instagram DMs. They exchanged vows in 2021, coinciding with Lindor’s significant $341 million, 10-year deal with the Mets.
Since then, they have welcomed three children, providing ample material for Leggero Lindor’s podcast focused on parenting.
Requests for comments from Lindor’s representatives and a Mets spokesperson, as well as Mamdani’s transition team, went unanswered.
