Mets walk-off Phillies to add some drama to historic homestand

Nearly perfect for the Mets, April added the perfect component on Wednesday.

7 games on the home stand, 7 wins.

This took them to their final batting. Sterling Marte finished the drama with a walk-off RBI single in 10 innings, sending the Mets into a 4-3 victory for the Phillies at Citifield and a three-game sweep.

Nick Castellanos slapped a Go-Ahead RBI single after autorunner Bryce Harper stole third place against Edwin Diaz in 10 innings. Diaz signaled the bench – initially dominated the balk – and was removed from the game after a mound visit, including a team trainer.

Max Cranick escaped the innings without further damage after the Phillies loaded up base.

Juan Soto’s arm prevented the Phillies from winning their eighth Go-Ard run.

Soto nailed Castellanos as he tried to score from second place against Jose Batoto from Max Kepler’s two singles. Hayden Senger took the throw and tagged a sliding castelanos before charging across the plate.

David Peterson was tagged with 15 hard hit balls measured on Statcast, but kept the Mets in the game by allowing two runners acquired in 5 1/3 innings. Peterson surrendered eight hits (all singles) and he walked once with two strikeouts.

After escaping the second baseloaded jam, Peterson dented it in the fourth, with the Phillies scoring twice to tie it. Johann Rojas delivered the third single to the frame to bring the first run. Trea Turner’s next RBI single tied the first bass hole 2-2. Alec Baum and Weston Wilson also had singles as part of the rally.
