South Florida Lawmaker Pledges Salary to Family of Fallen Officer

A lawmaker from South Florida has committed to donating his salary to the family of a police officer who tragically lost his life in a recent crash. This officer, Miami Beach Police Officer David Cajuso, was 33 years old and leaves behind a wife and three young children.

Miami Beach Chief David Suarez indicated he intends to reach out to Cajuso’s family after they’ve had some time to mourn the loss. In a heartfelt Facebook post, the police department described Cajuso as a dedicated officer with ten years of experience, known for his courage and commitment to serving the public.

“You couldn’t have asked for a better police officer. He was a cop’s cop. One of the best,” Suarez shared. Reflecting on Cajuso’s family, he expressed, “I can’t imagine what my wife would do without me,” as he highlighted Cajuso’s role as a husband and father.

The accident occurred along the northbound stretch of Interstate 75 near NW 138th Street. Miami Beach commissioners, including Suarez, earn around $70,000 annually, combining base salary and benefits.

Locals remember Cajuso as an exemplary officer who embodied professionalism and was always seen with a warm smile.

Nicole Parker, a former FBI agent and Miami Beach resident, expressed her shock upon learning of Cajuso’s passing. She emphasized the heartbreaking impact on his young children, saying, “Words cannot describe the devastating impact it has on the children left behind when their best friend is killed in action.”

Suarez praised law enforcement’s role in safeguarding the community, asserting, “We protect law enforcement. It’s important to support each other.”

He added, “I really wish more politicians would support families of officers. It’s a challenging job. People tend to forget the family lives these officers lead.” This sentiment resonates with many as they consider the pressures faced by law enforcement and their families.
