The Miami-Dade Police Department has already begun an investigation into Sunday's detention of Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
Hill, 30, was charged with reckless driving after a traffic stop near Hard Rock Stadium before the Dolphins' season opener against the Jaguars.
He was seen on video handcuffed and lying on the ground before being released.
“We are aware that Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill was recently taken into custody by officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department,” Chief Stephanie V. Daniels said in a statement released by MDPD. “We have requested an immediate investigation into all details surrounding the incident, and we are currently reviewing available body camera footage. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
In an interview with NFL Network, Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, called his client's treatment “unnecessary,” adding that there was “no reason for Tyreek to be treated like this.”
Hill's teammates Callie Campbell and Jonnu Smith were also on the scene.
The star receiver is in action during the Dolphins' game against Jacksonville.
