Miami Officer Arrested After Alleged Shooting During Argument
A Miami police officer was arrested and subsequently fired after allegedly firing her weapon during a disagreement with her boyfriend.
Sthephany Canizares, 27, reportedly turned herself in on Friday, following a brief flight from the scene when police arrived at the couple’s residence.
Canizares later admitted to officers that things escalated after she discovered a text on her boyfriend’s phone that upset her.
According to the boyfriend, who claimed they had been experiencing relationship troubles in recent days, he found her armed when he returned home on Friday.
Despite his requests for her to go inside, she remained outside and fired a shot. Authorities confirmed these details.
During this tense situation, it was noted that the boyfriend and his young daughter were locked in a bedroom along with a gun belonging to the officer.
Several hours later, Canizares contacted the police, handed over the shell casing, and is reported to have admitted to the incident while speaking with investigators.
She explained that her actions were a response to “inappropriate messages” seen on her boyfriend’s phone.
As a result, Canizares faces charges including aggravated assault with a firearm and discharging a weapon in a residential area.
Initially taken to a hospital due to what authorities described as “abnormal behavior,” she was later jailed but posted bail by Monday. The Miami Police Department confirmed that she was released pending the outcome of the investigation.
Additionally, footage resurfaced showing her singing the national anthem at the swearing-in ceremony of the former police chief in 2021, and images of her with the current chief have also been reported.
