The Hurricanes did not want to play on Saturday. They were in control of their own destiny heading into the College Football Playoff, but after losing to Syracuse in the final week of the season, they were eliminated from the ACC title game and ultimately the tournament.

The uproar came after a high-scoring first quarter in which the Hurricanes gave up 21 points to Iowa State. The Cyclones won the game 42-41.

Cam Ward, a likely first-round pick in the NFL draft, played only in the first half and left the game after Miami regained a 31-28 lead before halftime.

After the game, the Poptarts mascot was “toasted” and the Cyclones were presented with a toaster trophy.

This is the first time the Cyclones have won 11 games in a season.

Game MVP Rocco Becht scored the winning touchdown from 4 yards out with 56 seconds left.
