Micah Parsons Departs from Dallas Cowboys in Trade to Green Bay Packers
The recent split between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys turned sour last week when the standout defensive player was traded to the Green Bay Packers. The transition, if we can call it that, followed some controversial remarks made by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who hinted at a trade by expressing a desire to move on.
During a previous discussion, Parsons reflected on this uncertainty, stating, “I’m in Dallas,” which, frankly, seems to have been more of a lament than a declaration. Ultimately, Parsons signed a staggering four-year contract worth $188 million with the Packers, which is, well, quite a move, no doubt.
Jones, on his end, claimed he had proposed a record deal to Parsons. However, when Parsons’ agent, David Murgeta, responded on ESPN’s “First Take,” he described it as a “loaded question,” which raises more questions than it answers. Murgeta acknowledged that the Cowboys did present a deal averaging about $40 million annually, but pointed out that it didn’t truly reflect the highest salary for Parsons in the first three years of the contract.
“The devil is in the details,” Murgeta emphasized, shedding light on the complexities involved.
Furthermore, he suggested that any guaranteed money related to the contract from Dallas was primarily front-loaded, indicating that it would not extend in a beneficial way into subsequent years. “If you look at many of these contracts the Cowboys have made over the past few years, the guarantee will not grow any further than the first New Year. Comparing this to Mikah’s new deal with Green Bay, he has a four-year guarantee ahead,” he explained.
It’s interesting to note how eager Parsons was to remain with the Cowboys. He even adorned blue and white while in Pennsylvania, clearly showing his affinity for the team. “Mika wanted to be a cowboy. He cheered on the Cowboys, and despite everything, we did all we could to keep him here,” Murgeta shared.
Instead of gearing up to face the Philadelphia Eagles this Thursday, Parsons will have a short break from the offseason. He’s now set to prepare for a match against the Detroit Lions, bringing all the excitement and anticipation that comes with it.
