Mika Parsons Requests Trade from Dallas Cowboys

After a lengthy period of discussions, linebacker Mika Parsons has officially requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys. This news comes as the annual Defensive Player of the Year nominee expressed, through a social media statement, that he “no longer wants to be here.” The post was titled “Thank you Dallas.”

Parsons shared his feelings openly, stating he had strived to be a dedicated member of the Cowboys and cherished playing for such passionate fans. Growing up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he had always dreamed of representing the iconic star. However, it seems his enthusiasm has waned. “I wanted to be here. I did everything I could,” he said, yet added, “Unfortunately, I don’t want to be here anymore.”

In his reflections, Parsons noted that he wished to avoid further negotiations without an agent and expressed concern about being sidelined due to injuries that he feels were exacerbated by the organization. He alluded to a desire for a trade after three seasons, though the team showed no interest. “I didn’t complain and focused on the 2024 season,” he mentioned, though he seemed aware that his value might decrease with time.

In a part of the post, he recalled discussions with Jerry Jones about what each side wanted from a potential deal. However, he noted that these talks didn’t evolve into formal negotiations and that communication had been lacking. Parsons stated, “I made a difficult decision not to want to play for the Dallas Cowboys,” emphasizing that he formally submitted his trade request to Stephen Jones.

This season has seen other top defensive players, like Miles Garrett and T.J. Watt, securing significant contracts, with Parsons likely hoping to follow suit. Recently, fans voiced their support with “Paymica” chants during training camp. Meanwhile, Jones has made remarks implying there may not be a straightforward path forward, highlighting past injury issues as a concern. The Cowboys, he noted, could franchise tag Parsons for two additional seasons should the need arise, but Parsons seems adamant about not wanting to entertain that possibility.

As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, it’s worth noting that he has recorded 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks over 63 games, marking him as one of the most formidable edge rushers in the NFL since 2021.
