Mika Parsons Traded to Green Bay Packers
The Dallas Cowboys shocked fans on Thursday by trading star edge rusher Mika Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. This unexpected move comes amidst reports of difficult contract negotiations between Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Parsons, in a heartfelt statement, expressed his reluctance to leave the team saying, “I didn’t want to finish this chapter, but it’s not all in my control.” He emphasized that he had never made any unreasonable demands, just asking for what he considered fair treatment.
Earlier this month, Parsons requested a trade, but he insisted he didn’t want a permanent exit from Dallas, mainly because of his respect for Jones. He noted, “I don’t want to close the door on negotiations. I don’t aim to create negative headlines during my recovery. It’s crucial for me to avoid fueling any media narratives about my situation.”
According to reports, Jones had previously claimed to have offered Parsons the most lucrative deal ever presented to a non-quarterback in the NFL. Currently, Parsons is in the final year of his rookie contract, boasting impressive stats with 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks over just 63 games in the league since 2021.
The trade to Green Bay reportedly includes a four-year contract exceeding $188 million, with $136 million guaranteed. This deal sets a record for non-quarterbacks in NFL history. In return, the Cowboys received two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
In his farewell note to Cowboys fans, Parsons expressed his gratitude for their support, reflecting on his journey from growing up in Philadelphia to playing for Dallas. “You embraced my family and me. It felt like home every time I stepped onto the field, carrying the pride of this community with me.”
He concluded, “North Texas will remain my home during the offseason. The connections I’ve made here will last, no matter where this next chapter leads us.”
