Mika Parsons and the Cowboys have not made any moves toward a trade. It seems that all-pro linebackers are even contemplating serious actions, like severing ties with the team or making trade requests, according to reports from Athletic.
Parsons is in the last year of his rookie contract and has been in negotiations with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones throughout the spring, with indications that an agreement was reached.
When Parsons’ agent, David Murgueta, came back to discuss further negotiations, it didn’t seem to bother the Cowboys. They were hoping for all-Pro Pass Rush players to adhere to what they thought was a set deal.
Currently, the Cowboys are not engaging with Parsons’ agents, and the situation appears to be escalating.
Last month, Jones criticized a star player in a press conference after they missed time due to an ankle injury the previous year.
Jones remarked, “[If] we sign him, it’s not that we have him. I remember signing a player to the highest salary in the league for their position.”
He continued, “The contract is four or five years. Are you okay? If you go out in the first few and three and do something, there’s a lot of water under the bridge. You can hit a car. Seriously.”
Last season, Parsons played in 13 games, achieving 12 sacks and 12 tackles. He also made the Pro Bowl for the fourth consecutive year.
While he reported to training camp, the 26-year-old hasn’t engaged in any on-field activities.
In a conversation with reporters last week, Parsons stated that he desires an extension and aims to remain in Dallas.
Unfortunately, the situation has clearly worsened since then.
