Michael Douglas shared a memorable run-in with the police and the strange, if not outrageous, attempts Danny DeVito made to hide drugs in a car. This story came up during the October 14 episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” where Douglas explained it all started with him “making an illegal left-hand turn.”
He recalled stepping out of the car to talk to the officers while, rather unexpectedly, DeVito took some initiative of his own in the backseat. When Douglas returned to the vehicle after his chat with the police, he noticed something amusing. “I remember I got back into the car and Danny – Danny was with me – and we had – a few joints,” he mentioned.
When he glanced at DeVito in the back seat and asked, “Where’s the grass?” Danny just smiled, revealing his mouth was completely green. Douglas chuckled, “He swallowed all of it at the time!”
“Crazy, crazy stories – we had a great time!” he reminisced with Rogan.
In addition, Douglas shared an intriguing experience related to drugs in his memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” which was released on October 6. He recounted how he smuggled nearly 200 pounds of marijuana from California to New York in an effort to fund his college education after his father, the legendary Kirk Douglas, pulled his financial support.
He admitted that when he turned 21, his father handed him $10,000 and told him he needed to find his own way in the world. This left Douglas grappling with the challenge of covering two years’ worth of tuition and other college expenses. So, he opted for some unconventional routes to make ends meet.
Using two suitcases filled with around 22 kilograms of marijuana each, he made two trips to sell to a contact in New York. Ultimately, he came clean to his father about his ventures and acknowledged that perhaps a student loan would’ve been a wiser choice.
