NFL Hall of Fame member Michael Irvin said the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match was a “lie” that was never intended to be a real match.
The former Dallas Cowboy, who was seated in the second row at the Netflix-promoted event, said in his opinion that Tyson was holding back and purposely not delivering his signature uppercut.
“That fight was a lie,” Irvin insisted. “Everyone's lying. … They weren't really going to strap it on. When you look into it, there wasn't a single uppercut that Mike Tyson patented. What did Mike Tyson win with?
Irvin told the hosts:that's realityTyson said on the podcast that he heard he had agreed to a contract that said he couldn't punch Paul in the body and then follow up with an uppercut.
“Then I heard some people say you couldn't put that in a contract. He couldn't do body and uppercuts. Like, how can you put that in a fight contract? ” Irvin said.
Host Mason Besa, also known as rapper Mace, was perplexed by this confusing point, though he often smiled or simply said, “Hmm…” throughout Irvin's theory.
“Mike, how do you know that's not in the contract?” Betta said with a laugh.
“No, that's It was It's written in the contract! ” replied Irvin.
“Who are your resources?” Betha continued, “Cite your sources,” he laughed.
“You brought all these people out here, and [Tyson] I couldn't pin him to the body and do my patented uppercut. Mike Tyson isn't Mike Tyson anyway, and now you get to take away Mike Tyson's greatest gift: the uppercut. No, that's a big lie to me. ”
“If they take it away, you’re not that guy anymore.”
Irvin then compared taking the uppercut from Tyson to his own football days, saying he wouldn't play his best if he was forced to play without running slants or deep out routes.
“If they take it away, you're not that guy anymore, and they took it away,” Irvin added.
Co-host Camron Giles (Cam'ron for short) said his interpretation of the fight was that Tyson was beaten so badly that he didn't want to watch it anymore.
“I left around the fourth round,” Cam'ron said, adding that he was trying to avoid Tyson getting knocked out. “I just went to my car and smoked a cigarette.”

But Irvin had another theory.
“Someone asked Mike why he keeps biting his glove,” the former wide receiver began. “I think he was trying not to kill the guy. That's what crazy people do,” Irvin argued.
“That's bad…he never threw an uppercut.”
However, Irvin appears to have already been disproven on this topic. Netflix announcer Mauro Ranallo not only mentioned on the air that Tyson has a history of biting his gloves, but Tyson also claimed after the fight that “I have a habit of biting.”Occlusal fixation. ”
The latter is a hilarious reference to his time. a bit Boxer Evander Holyfield's ear in 1997.
At the same time, there is video evidence that at least Tyson did the same glove biting. 2020 But that game was also an exhibition, so some might make the same argument as Irvin about that game.
“I'm glad he got a dime or whatever. I want him to get the money. I just want him to release the beast,” Irvin concluded.
