Michael Jordan’s Catch at the White Marlin Open
A boat with a crew that included one of basketball’s legends claimed second place in the esteemed White Marlin Open held in Ocean City, Maryland.
Michael Jordan was aboard the “Catch 23” when angler Trey “Cricket” MacMillan reeled in a 71-pound White Marlin on the tournament’s sixth day.
The boat arrived back at the Ocean City port accompanied by the song “Sirus,” which has become synonymous with Jordan, as the six-time NBA champion celebrated alongside his fellow crew members over the event’s sound system.
When the fish was weighed, the celebration erupted as they learned they had secured second place in the tournament.
This position brings a $400,000 prize, while the current leader, angler Dan Goff from Bill Fisher, landed a 72-pound Marlin, which is projected to win a whopping $4.27 million. There was still about an hour left in the competition at that point.
On social media, various images of Jordan at the tournament emerged. One showed him posing with his crew and their catch upon returning to shore.
Another image captured Jordan on the boat, with reflections of a large crowd eager to see NBA royalty.
Inclement weather led tournament organizers to extend fishing days to Saturday and Sunday, allowing 211 out of the 282 participating boats to take advantage on the final day, as noted by Coast TV.
Rival competitor Jimmy David likened the tournament to a Super Bowl experience, particularly with stars like Jordan in attendance. “It’s the biggest tournament, attracting people from everywhere,” he remarked. “I heard there’s even a Navy Secretary and various celebrities. The best fishing, the best people—it’s certainly the Super Bowl.”
