Michael Kay expressed his exhilaration regarding the Mets’ recent struggles in 2025.
The Yankees television announcer and ESPN Radio host took a moment to revel in what he called a historic collapse, targeting certain fans he felt were behaving, well, somewhat unprofessionally both in the offseason and during the season.
“Honestly, for all the fans I’ve met, I do feel for you. I really do. But there’s this particularly harsh and, let’s say, angry group of Mets fans who, perhaps, just didn’t get enough love at home,” Kay said.
“Here’s a little secret: I can’t help but take pleasure in your suffering today. It feels like karma, especially after everything you sad about me. Your constant tweets about Juan Soto and how you thought you’d make my life miserable? Well, you seem to need to point fingers somewhere, especially considering you couldn’t manage to beat the Cincinnati Reds with a payroll of $110 million.”
Kay clarified that his frustration isn’t directed at all Mets supporters, but rather at those who continually harass him year-round.
He pointed out that his grievances specifically target those fans who, during the offseason, seemed to revel in their mockery of the Yankees.
This mocking behavior followed Soto into the regular season, where some Mets fans expressed discomfort with Kay’s report claiming the former Yankee was causing problems in the clubhouse.
The first edition of the Subway series didn’t see Soto play up to par, but he still finished the season with a notable .263 batting average, 43 home runs, 105 RBIs, and an unexpected 38 steals.
Kay alleged that some Mets fans were eager to criticize him for that report.
“I’ve got a lot of Mets friends, and they’re devastated today. Why aren’t you?” he questioned. “This team seems designed to break your spirit. That’s who I’m really talking about. And those who I don’t connect with are likely the same ones who stay up late to laugh and tweet at me about how happy Juan Soto looks. Isn’t that a bit embarrassing?”
As he enjoys the moment, Kay is preparing for a challenging day online should the Yankees stumble in the playoffs.
The Yankees are considered favorites against the Red Sox in the upcoming wild card series. Meanwhile, their odds for the World Series sit at 8/1 on DraftKings, placing them sixth overall and third among American League teams, trailing just behind the Mariners and Blue Jays.
