Michael Kay criticizes Mets fans for their complaints about Juan Soto: 'Uninformed fools'

Michael Kay, a Yankees broadcaster, recently shared some sharp criticisms towards Mets fans during his ESPN New York radio show. He labeled them as “informed knit wits,” suggesting they thrive on negativity.

“Mets fans really don’t seem to savor any success,” Kay remarked. “They’re always looking for reasons to complain and are pretty eager to argue with anyone who says anything unfavorable about the team.”

Earlier in May, Kay had stirred some controversy with a report about Juan Soto, the Mets’ marquee player worth $765 million. He claimed that Soto wasn’t fitting in well in the clubhouse and considered returning to the Yankees.

This assertion seemed plausible, especially since Soto didn’t appear to exhibit his usual confidence as he began his Mets career. However, after a recent series in Los Angeles, where Soto showed more enthusiasm and camaraderie with teammates, fans started questioning Kay’s narrative.

Kay acknowledged the backlash, stating, “It’s amusing how much space I take up in their minds.” He added, “Some think I fabricated this story due to my radio show facing challenges. But that’s simply not true.”

He didn’t hold back on his feelings, asking rhetorically, “Are these people really proud of their ignorance?” and called out what he perceived as the absurdity of their reactions.

Kay went as far as to call them “fleas,” suggesting he wouldn’t let their complaints bother him. He ended with a firm rebuttal: “Why would I jeopardize my long career for a made-up story? It doesn’t benefit me at all.”
