Grand Jury Indicts Michael McKee for Aggravated Murder

A grand jury in Franklin County has officially charged Michael McKee with several counts of aggravated murder in connection with the deaths of an Ohio dentist and his wife, according to court documents.

On Friday, McKee was indicted on four counts of aggravated murder, each related to the use of a firearm, as per the records filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Notably, three of these charges detail the use or display of an automatic weapon or silencer, while one concerns the brandishing of a firearm. Alongside these, he faces one count of aggravated robbery classified as a first-degree felony and another count of aggravated robbery that is unclassified.

The charges stem from an incident on December 30, where it is alleged that McKee shot and killed his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, 39, and her spouse, Spencer Tepe, at their residence in the Wineland Park area of Columbus around 10 a.m. McKee was apprehended on January 10 and taken to Franklin County Jail.

Authorities are treating the shooting as a targeted act related to domestic violence. However, they have not provided insights regarding the motive or any prior communication between McKee and the victims before the incident.

Police Chief Elaine Bryant indicated that while they know McKee is Monique’s ex-husband, further details might emerge as the trial unfolds. “As for now, we don’t have answers to the motive,” she remarked.

McKee had waived his right to extradition during a court hearing on January 12 while being held at the Winnebago County Jail in Rockford, Illinois, where he was located following the murders.

Investigators linked McKee to a vehicle seen entering the Tepe’s neighborhood just before the shooting and leaving soon after. Authorities later found this vehicle in Rockford, confirming it was registered to McKee.

Police revealed that multiple firearms were recovered from McKee’s residence, including one believed to have been used in the crime. A preliminary connection through the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network has been established for one of the recovered firearms. Additionally, three spent 9mm shell casings were collected from the shooting scene as evidence. When questioned about the legality of the firearms, Bryant noted that they are still investigating that aspect.
