Michael Pittman Jr. seems to have a knack for reading the situation.
As the Steelers’ new receiver, he mentioned he lacks any insider info about the unpredictable quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who still needs to make his decision on whether to come back.
Yet, he feels that the 42-year-old still has the drive to play.
“I think he wants to play,” Pittman said during his appearance on Monday’s “Up & Adams.” “Knowing Aaron a bit, I believe he’ll push to play as long as he can. He’s just a beast.”
If Rodgers opts for a 22nd season in 2026, Pittman’s chances of hitting the Super Bowl will surely get a boost, especially since options are slim.
The Steelers don’t have many high-cap alternatives available in free agency, and with the No. 21 draft pick, they aren’t in a position to select a potential starter.
The roster currently has established players like Will Howard and Mason Rudolph.
The Steelers have expressed their desire to see Rodgers return. However, Rodgers noted earlier this offseason that he hasn’t received a contract offer yet.
Pittman, who’s 28, is already in discussions with new coach Mike McCarthy but intends to give Rodgers some space.
“Aaron’s a guy who needs his space. He likes to have that time to reset. We didn’t want to flood him with calls like, ‘Hey, Aaron, what’s up?'” Pittman remarked.
“Let’s give him some time. He and his wife have their things to sort through; then he’ll figure out if he wants to come back.”
While Rodgers might improve Pittman’s chances of bagging his first title, Pittman’s presence also makes Pittsburgh more appealing.
Last season’s Steelers relied heavily on DK Metcalf for passing, but adding Pittman offers a solid receiving duo.
Pittman has faced two challenging seasons, finishing with 808 and 784 receiving yards, respectively, and adding ten touchdowns.
It took Rodgers until June last year to make a decision, and it might take even longer this time.
“I believe they’ll grant him all the time he needs,” Pittman said. “Ultimately, we have Will and Mason ready, and I think they’re strong players, so we can strategize well whether he returns or not.”
“Of course, I hope he comes back.”
